Study & Exploration of Sheep Wool Fibre

Study & Exploration of Sheep Wool Fibre
Textiles 1 - Assessment 1 - 2022 (UNSW)

This project revolved around experimenting with textile techniques through the lens of sheep wool fibre. Through the study of this specific fibre, my final three swatches are inspired by sheep and their fibre. Through my research, I found that sheep wool fibre is 100% natural renewable and biodegradable the fibre does not contain micro-plastics, bi-products from the manufacturing process of wool such as lanolin are used in the beauty industry and discarded wool fibres provide valuable nutrients for soil. I have used this research to inform my project experimenting with textile techniques such as mark making, felting, spinning yarn, dyeing fabrics with natural dyes, coiling, applique and embroidery. I then utilised some of these techniques in my final to express the theme and research of Sheep Wool Fibre.
